Hanjin and UASC upgrade their West Africa service (JUNE 18, 2010)
Hanjin Shipping and UASC are to upgrade their joint Med-West Africa relay service (WAF - 5190) from fortnightly to weekly sailings. They are to bring two more ships, the recently chartered 2,078 teu WESTERBURG and 1,661 teu KOLLMAR, adding to the 2,078 teu HANJIN SALERNO and 1,684 teu NORDRIVER. The WAF was launched in March 2010 (See related news) between Valencia, Lagos, Cotonou, Tema and Abidjan, and it started also to call a few weeks later at the brand new Hanjin's Algeciras terminal. The WAF allows Hanjin and UASC to connect the US, Asia and North Europe to West Africa through transhipment at Algeciras with the UASC-Hanjin India-Med-US service (MINA / IMU - 3594), the North Europe-FE 'NE 1 / AEC 3' loop (31203), the North Europe-FE 'NE 5 / AEC 7' loop (31209) and the Med-FE 'MD 3' loop.
